Last post of 2006

So it's been three weeks. Sorry!

We went to Ikea last night. It was an adventure getting there, too. When I printed out the directions to get there, I asked Mike if they were ok, because a) it wasn't the same way we went last year, and b)I didn't want to get on George Bush...I don't like paying to drive on a road! He said yeah, they're fine. So off we go, and we get on George Bush, passing all the warnings about the last free exit and all that, and we come to the first toll booth. Did I mention that neither of us carry cash? So here we are on a toll road with about a dollar eighty between us, and the first toll is 75 cents. So was the second one, after which point I said that we had to get off the road since we had about thirty cents left. But no big deal, right, we'll just get on 35 and then onto 121. So we enact that plan and get all the way to 121.

121 is also now a toll road.

Bad words ensued.

So we spy a Best Buy and decide to go in to regroup and decide on a plan of action. Our options are limited; we can either ask around and see if anyone can tell us how to get to Ikea without paying or we can go to a grocery store and buy something and get cash over. So after wandering around Best Buy for twenty minutes (we also bought a sound card while we were there), we decided to go with the latter and get cash. So we get back in the car and start driving around--we didn't even know what town we were in--looking for a grocery store. Apparently these people don't cook food though. So finally I see a Target sign way across the highway and we managed to find our way over there where we bought soap and ten dollars. All this is about two hours after we first left our house...After all that, we get back on 121 and about halfway down the road realise it's a boothless tollway and we didn't even need cash. Hysterical giggles followed.

We did eventually get to Ikea and I bought lots of cool stuff. Yay! Afterwards, we went to On the Border and ate yummy food. Mike got this burrito thing that looked like it weighed about ten pounds.

I should mention that when poor sods like us go to a place like Frisco it can be pretty amusing. Right across the way from On the Border there's a McDonalds. A Frisco, Rich-People McDonalds. We looked in the windows (couldn't help it, sorry) and had to laugh...the Frisco, Rich-People McDonalds had chandeliers. And fancy wall sconces. And dark wood paneling. And framed prints hung about. Seriously, people, it's McDonalds. Yeesh.
