We Love Billy

Let's all bow our heads...
Thank you, Lord, for Billy Guerin. Amen.

Sure, he didn't even get a point, but you could tell how grateful we all were to have him back...and the Stars won 2-1!

Education

Wow...I learned a great many new things today...
1) The tiny pump on the fish fountain clogs easily. It’s best to start with a clean pond.
2) When you’re filling a pond that is, by the way, UPHILL from your water spigot, it’s a good idea to remove the hose from the pond after you turn ot off. Otherwise, the combination of a) a hose full of water, b) a downhill slope, and c) gravity, physics and a lack of thinking through what you’re doing will lead to your pond siphoning out. The water coming out of the hose where it’s connected to the faucet is NOT, in fact, due to faulty plumbing. This is an especially harrowing experience when you have fishies in the pond. Huh.
3) When cleaning your pond (after rescuing the fishies and siphoning it on purpose this time) you have to scoop out the stuff in the bottom. It turns out that both dogs and small children enjoy playing in the foul-smelling muck pulled out of said pond. Also that the smell lingers. Huh, again. Also, something that I’ve learned over the past couple of weeks in that my dogs love water plants. And it doesn’t bother them a bit that the plants are completely submerged. They’ll dunk their heads in and pull them out. Can’t think of a solution offhand to that one...

Anaheim...Eeeewwwww!

geez, I hate Anaheim...Stars are down 2-0 in the series now, and you can bet that if they don't win tonight, they're done. Gaaa! Anaheim hasn't lost a game yet in postseason...I'd surely like to have the Stars just school them tonight...let's all cross our fingers!

I got a lot done this weekend...finally hooked up the fountain in the pond...Zephyr is amazed and delighted with the drinking fountain (he thinks!) I made just for him! I need to talk to me dad about running permanent electricity out there though. Mike's supposed to pick up a liner for the kid's sandbox on the way home today, let's see if he remembers...I did get Zephyr enrolled in doggie school this weekend, he starts that on May 7 up at Petco. Their list of disclaimers was so long it bordered on funny ... "we aren't responsible if your dog is stupid or excessivly mean" basically...

Thank goodness for early puck drop...

it's a good thing the game's on at 2:00 this afternoon...maybe it'll be over by a decent time!!

Mike's birthday is next weekend, and he never did tell me what he wanted. Oh well, dinner and a movie it is, I suppose. We'll see X2. Cool.
I came home from work yesterday and went right to bed, and I didn't get up till 5:30. I was sooo tired from staying up all night with the Stars game.... I've got a lot of stuff I need to do today. It's such a nice day out, and I'm determined not to waste it! I need to clean the house, too, but I suppose that'll have to wait till after dark.. Mike's gone to get donuts for breakfast. Yummy.... Well, I suppose I oughtta get to work now...

5OT

wow...and six hours later...The game last night started at 6:30 and ended at 12:30. Five overtimes. Talk about setting the tone for the series...Fortunatly the fifth overtime only lasted 55 seconds or I wouldn't have made it to the end. Unfourtnatly the Stars lost, but, you know, when a game goes on that long it hardly matters who wins or loses. The goal that goes it is almost always on a fluky bounce or just a dumb mistake...which is what happens when guys skate hard for six hours...And it was olny the first game-the Stars have 6 more games to win it...

OT Galore

My sanity is telling me I have to get up in 4 and a half hours, but this game is great...it’s gone into the fourth overtime now...I really need to get some sleep!! It’s been such a horrible week at work, thank God tomorrow’s Friday...this has to be a short entry, I’ll make up for it tomorrow!!!

Bad Dog!

Gosh...guess I missed yesterday...
I've been spending all my time trying to find a place to get Zephyr some obiedience training...he listens to me, but he's also gotten *extremely* protective to the point that adults can't approach me when I'm with him... There's not a place in town that I can do it at due to time constraints, and I can't drive too far with him because he's so darn big..
I so don't want to go to work tomorrow. It won't be fun due to the people who are going to be out...I have no idea how it's all gonna work but I guess we'll find out...yeah! I can hardly wait....At least they're be hockey on tomorrow night to console me...there's not any tonight. I guess that's good, though...I don't have an excuse to stay up late...

Yeah. It's Monday, God's own little joke on the world... I decided to change my major (again)...Graphic arts is (are?) fun, but it's such a broad set of topics that I feel that I'm starting to lose my sense of direction...so I've narrowed it some and decided to go after marketing. That sounds like fun, too...ay! so many decisions...I bought some carpet deoderizer today and discovered that they've changed to scent...it's horrible!
We had two people out at work, so needless to say, I had a FUN and EXCITING day! Plus the Big Boss is out till Thursday, so of course everyone tends to slack a little.. Brandon got Jonah (the VeggieTales movie) for Easter, and now we're watching it...again...for the third time...and wasn't Easter just yesterday? Good thing I like VeggieTales... And speaking of veggies, I stil have a drawer full in the fridge I need to cut up...guess I should get started...

Stars Win!

YES!! Stars win round 1! Have to face Anaheim and J-S G next...

Measure Twice, Cut Once

wow, I've had a busy morning...baked a cake, boiled some Easter eggs, hung a shower caddy....Incedently, you may be interesded to know that it doesn't , in fact, take 45 minutes to boil a dozen eggs. Wow. Also, when you hang a shower caddy, make sure that if you had measured the day before that you go ahead and mark your pilot holes that day instead of counting on remembering where they were the next day...wow again. That took some imaginative thinking to fix, as well as some interesting modifications to the caddy...It's the kind that's supposed to hang over the shower head, but since Mike's so tall, we had ours installed eight feet off the ground when our house was built. So hanging it properly was out of the question to begin with, or I wouldn't be able to reach it...I spent all day cleaning the house yeasterday, and do you think you can tell now? Ha! no way... Have to decorate that cake for my brother's birthday now, I'm supposed to be at my mom's house in an hour and a half...I just hope I can get out of there by 6:30, because the game starts at 7:00...

White carpet? Why?!

You know, I had kind of an odd and random thought the other day... Out of our little tight group of friends form high school, Heidi-who not only graduated 2 years behind the rest of us but was also the wildest and most irresponsible-is the only one who is graduating college on time. Huh. None of the rest of us are even finished with school and we had a head start! Of course, the rest of all have kids, and Jess was in the Navy for five years as well, so i guess that’s a good excuse...Come to think of it, Heidi’s also the only one who’s not either married or divorced, and she’s the only one without kids...maybe she was the smartest one after all...she did school first instead of kids first!
And speaking of kids...I slept till 8:30 today and didn't get up till nine. Which was, of course, my first mistake, because the kids got up at 7:30. So when Autumn came in and said Brandon was coloring on the floor, I didn't get up right away because he's got washable markers. Stupid stupid stupid! He was coloring with CRAYONS! On the WHITE CARPET! Great. I don't know how the heck I'm gonna get that up. Why, God, why?! It seems I have a fun day ahead of me...

Computer Junkie

By the way...You know, I can never remember what day American Idol comes on. But I wish I could so that I could remember to avoid the break room the next day! Geez. Groups of women going on and on about the show... You know, I know it’s an unpopular decision (like that’s ever stopped me from saying something!) but I really wish that all these stupid reality shows would go back to the oblivion that they so richly deserve. They’re STUPID! I can’t imagine a bigger waste of time that staring at the tube for hours, living vicariously through complete stranger’s lives (as opposed to staring at the computer, reading complete stranger’s blogs, right? :) ). I mean, really. But that’s just me...I don’t watch much TV. Half the shows that are on now, I can feel my IQ dropping when I see them, you know? It’s like being bombarded with stupidity...
Mike’s been after me lately to get another computer. Not that there’s anything wrong with ours, I mean he can play all his games on it and stuff...no, he wants one of his own, so he doesn’t have to share time, I guess. Right. There’s no WAY this is gonna happen unless he starts spending less time with the stupid thing. You have to understand, Mike is a computer junkie. Not an Internet junkie, though, so that’s good.... He spent 5 hours straight on it today, playing Baseball Mogul...Ok, I like the computer, too, but I don’t ignore everyone else to play on it... I like Tetris. It’s a stupid addicting game and I love it! Plus I’m really good at it...it’s the one game of ANY sort that I’m better than Mike at... but I don’t play it for HOURS ON END! He doesn’t think it’s any big deal, though, so I don’t see how I can make him understand that it’s a problem! Yeesh. I guess this is vent time, huh? Ok, time to focus on something else... dang i’m hungry...

Ahhh, yes, life is indeed good...the Stars won again tonight...I wouldn't call it a serious ass-kicking, but it should have been. Turks made a stupid mistake and directed a puck in himself.... But it still ended up 5-2 and that's the important part.
I'm so glad I don't have to work tomorrow...I stayed up late with the Detroit game...still didn't make it to the end, had to wait till this morning to hear (!) and was dog tired today. I called Mike on the way home from the store and told him if I wasn't home in ten minutes, come find me because I probably fell asleep! I passed out on the bed almost as soon as I got home and didn't get up till game time. One of the women I work with has season tickets. I HATE her! Well, not really, but I am insanely jealous. It's not fair! I wish I could afford season tickets.....heck, I'd settle for being able to go to a game. We haven't been since right after Autumn was born...ah well, I guess that's what happens when you grow up. Plus we both have to get up so dang early that we can only go on the weekends anyway...

Swept!

Woke up this morning to good news...Anaheim did indeed sweep the Wings! Although I can’t help feeling bad for some of the individual players....must suck to be that good and still be stymied by a goalie like that... Sorry, Hullie, but at least you’ll have more time to golf than you did last year...
No work tomorrow, we’re closed on Good Friday...Most of the public schools still have to go because of all the sleet and snow back in February or whenever that was...that’s the good thing about private schools-we don’t have to make up missed days! Yay! And I don’t have to pack lunches today, either, because the kids both have parties in their classes. I have to go to the grocery store after work, though...yuck...

Dirt?!

Well, Brandon’s all better, so it was back to the grind this morning, which means the alarm went off at 4:30 this morning...dang, that felt early...I got up and came into the kitchen and discovered that there was dirt in the Well, Brandon’s all better, so it was back to the grind this morning, which means the alarm went off at 4:30 this morning...dang, that felt early...I got up and came into the kitchen and discovered that there was dirt in the fridge. Dirt. On the shelves. Like actual dirt that is outside. I don’t even want to know...

Got the kids ready for school and loaded up the cookies...thank God they’re finally out of the kitchen! Plus now I’m sixty-two dollars richer...

Everything is falling into place in my world...Stars won last night and Turco only allowed one goal....Detroit lost AGAIN the night before- I’m not gloating yet but man is it hard to hold in! Detroit plays again tonight and if they lose, they’re out. Not only out but SWEPT! HA!!!! Too bad the game doesn’t start till 9:30 and I probably won’t be up to see the end. I just hope if it gets that far that the Stars have an answer for J-S G, cuz the Wings sure don’t... I’d sure love to see the Stars and Toronto in the Finals....see Turks beat Eddie’s ass once and for all. Don’t get me wrong, I know Belfour’s an elite goaltender, but I can’t forgive him for what he did that night in Boston...you just don’t walk out on your team, psycho goalie or not....

Taxes, Cookies and Stars

Huh...my computer isn’t working properly. Wierd. Or not so wierd, really....
I awoke this morning with Autumn in my room, and (suprise!) she was tattling. “Brandon’s eating your cookies...” Great. And not the chocolate chip cookies, either...no, he’s eating the sugar cookies that I have to finish TODAY because everyone wants them tomorrow...
Today is everyone’s favorite day...Tax Day! I was so pleased to give the government four hundred and thirty eight dollars of my hard earned money....I really need to have more taxes taken out of my paycheck. My total witholdings were two dollars... I just hope Mike remembered to drop them in the mail on his way to work this morning! He wasn’t pleased when I told him to set my alarm for 8:00 this morning. “Must be nice to sleep in for three and a half hours...” Yeah, but you don’t have to stay home-without pay, might I add- with a sick three year old. It’s no picnic!

Game time is six-thirty tonight. Stars HAVE TO WIN! Well, they really don’t have to win, but realistically, if they don’t win tonight they don’t have much of a chance. Edmonton leads the series 2 to 1, so the Stars can tie the series up tonight. And if the Stars go out in the first round, everyone’s gonna point to Turco and say I told you so,when really it’s not his fault. He’s only let in one goal...well, maybe two...that he should have had back...I can’t wait till Guerin gets back...

I’ve discovered I forgot to drop off my water bill yesterday. Guess I’ll be making a trip into town this morning, and I may as well go to the bank...
have to go make more cookies now....

Ahh...goalies

Geez it’s late for me to be up... It's my favorite time of year..the weather's warming up, and most importantly it's playoff time! That's right, it's the time of year where sixteen teams try to beat the tar outta each other for the chance to raise Lord Stanley's Cup...does it get any better? And while we're on the subject, I have a bone to pick with the NHL brass. Well, several bones, actually, but this is a big fat juicy one. It’s called Rule 70, Note 3 and it goes like this..."A goalkeeper is not "fair game" just because he is outside the goal crease. The appropriate penalty should be assessed in every case where an attacking player makes unnecessary contact with the goalkeeper. However, incidental contact will be permitted when the goalkeeper is in the act of playing the puck outside his goal crease provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such unnecessary contact."This was fine and dandy back in the day when the goalies were all stay-at-home types, but then, this ain’t your father’s NHL. As more and more goalies become wandering Jew types, this rule gets more and more unfair. Last night I watched Marty Turco make a play with the puck way the heck out by the faceoff circle, and when he was hit by an Edmonton player, it was called goalie interference. Now, we all know I’m Turco’s number one fan (and to those of you that thought he couldn’t hack it, might I point to the 1.72 GAA and say I TOLD YOU SO!) but if he’s gonna play out there, he should be “fair game” Yeesh. I wish I lived in Canada where they appreciate the sport... And while we’re talking about goalies...wait, I’ll be here all night. Another time, yes? I had to take Brandon to the doctor today. I thought he had another ear infection, but it turns out it’s strep this time. So I have to miss work tomorrow too. So, let’s see, that’s half a day Thursday, all of Friday, Monday, and now tomorrow...geez I’m gonna be poor...and I still have all these cookies to make too. Why anyone would pay six dollars a dozen for cookies is beyond me, but I guess as long as I’m making my money it’s ok... I really do need to go...the Detroit game is on and Jean-Sebastion Gigure is making more of his spectacular saves...he’s something else, isn’t he? Anaheim is winning again and oh how I’ll gloat if Detroit bows out in the first round...Hullie, you know I still love you, but I love to hate Detroit even more...
