Sewing

Guess what I did yesterday? I borrowed my mom's sewing machine and I SEWED! All by my self and I didn't break it or anything. I'm pretty proud of myself. Last time I tried it was a disaster, but then it turns out the machine was messed up to begin with, it wasn't me. But now I know I can! Yay!

I want a sewing machine now. It was fun.

Snakes and Harry

I had to catch another snake at work yesterday. This makes the second time in a month I've been called away from whatever I was doing at the time for this particular duty. I feel like there should be some sort of bonus pay for snake wrangling. And what really cracks me up is that these are rat snakes--you can't get any more harmless than that. But none of the other girls will go near them...although I did get Micah to touch this one while I was holding it.

Spoiler alert...don't read the rest of this if you haven't read the last Potter yet!!

I sat on my couch for nine hours on Saturday and read the last Harry Potter book. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. It was what I expected, but not what I had hoped for. I was looking forward to something a little more dramatic. Some of the Horcrux destruction was a little too convenient, especially the Fiendfyre. And all that buildup and Harry defeats Voldmort with one spell? Come on, is wasn't even a harmful spell, it was defensive. And, okay, Fred dies, but that was a little anti-climatic too. Still and all, it was a good book, and I'm a little sad to see Harry go...

Harry Potter

I stood in line at midnight last night for the new Harry Potter book. Yay! I'm to page two hundred now. I can't wait to finish, but then...it'll be over. Over! What will geeks do now? There's still TWO YEARS till the Star Wars TV series...

And another thing...

I should mention that there's NOTHING WRONG with having Jedi robes in your closet, nor with having pictures of yourself in said costume posted on the Internet...

Star Wars are the best wars...

Mike went to the post office today and he brought back Star Wars stamps!! I'm so excited! Yay!!

We had a cookout Saturday and it was fun. And afterward we went inside and talked about Star Wars toys, and that was fun too. Cuz we're geeks. Thanks to everyone who did come, and for all of you who didn't, you're all LOSERS!! Except for those of you who had a good excuse, like you had to travel for work or you live in Oklahoma. And also my friend Jon said he might be able to help us out with some tickets to go see the Star Wars exhibit at the FW Museum. I'm really really happy about that.

My newest source of entertainment is http://www.myspace.com/itsallgeektomepodcast . It's pretty funny for no particular reason except that I'm a geek and it's funny. And because I was too lazy to make a real link, the name of the site is It's All Geek To Me and it's a podcast, basically like a radio show made by these three friends Jon, Jeff and Brandon. Quality entertainment there.

2 1/2 months till hockey starts!

Files

I'm so sick of the friggin' flies!

I don't know if it's all the rain or what, but there's about fifty flies in my house right now. It's like the hydra; you smack one and two more spring up. I hate the things. And the cats keep killing the house geckos, so they're not helping much. All the buzzing is starting to get old.

Also, it's still raining. I'm going to have to go buy some dirt this weekend to fill in some of the holes. It's nasty. I live in a swamp!

I'm also poodle-sitting right now. I thought Jason was going to pick the wee beasties up last night, but he must have gotten back into town late, because he didn't call. Hopefully he can take them back today...I wouldn't really mind watching them, but it's hard with my own dogs since I have to keep them separate. Plus poodles aren't really dogs anyway, they're more like rodents. But at least they're nice doggies and not nasty like some small dogs are.

Oh yeah, I don't have to work next week. Ha!

I'm back!

Been meaning to sit down to this for awhile!

We finally got a new keyboard (thanks, Chris!) so all the keys work now, which is great. Yay!

We got new phones last week. That's right, now we can blend in with the rest of society, because we have ringtones! And texting! And cameras! Of course, we don't use any of it, but hey, at least we look cool now. We'd had the same phones for about five years prior to that. They were OLD and outdated big-time!

We're having a cookout next weekend , but I keep thinking it's this weekend. Keep trying to make grocery lists and stuff. It'll be fun. My friends are actually coming to this one. And MAYBE even Mike's loser friends. I don't mean that they're really losers, just that they don't usually show for stuff like this.

It's been raining every day for a month, because apparently Texas has been transported to the tropics. There's standing water everywhere in the yard. I literally had to dredge canals in the backyard to drain some of it in the backyard. I got a pretty good sunburn doing that yesterday, because afterward I pulled weeds and scrubbed the mud off the patio and replaced the bricks that the mud had disturbed out of the retaining wall...Last year it was wildfires, this year it's unbelievable flooding.

I pulled the carpet out of Autumn's room yesterday. We really don't have the money to redo her room right now, but she's been after me for months, so I had to make a good-faith gesture that yes we are gonna do it! We can't do anything else till we get to a fabric store though. She's redoing in in a jungle cat theme. Tigers and leopards and cheetahs (which aren't, in fact, jungle cats.) Should be cool.
