Rest in Peace and other stuff

My pillow has died.

You have to understand I can't just run to the store and buy another pillow. They don't make pillows like mine. These pillows are about twenty years old. They're flat. I can fold them in half or roll them up... and that's the way I like them. I can't use a fluffy pillow. I sleep on my stomach, so generally the pillow isn't under my head anway, it's usually under my chest or my shoulder. Anyway, it seems the last washing I gave this one was just too much. It'd been repaired too many times and was getting pretty thin, so I left it in the pillowcse to wash, but the poor thing couldn't handle it. It split open...more like shredded, really...and now it's dead. Boo. I still have one more, but it's on its last legs too. How am I to cope?

Best Newly Discovered Show

How It's Made on the Science Channel. This is a very cool show where they tell you how stuff's made. I could watch this show all day. Slaking my thirst at the fountain of knowledge is what I'm doing!

I think my mixer is sick. And it's not my fault this time, Chris; I swear!! It's one of the cool ones that's got both a top motor to turn the beaters and a bottom motor to turn the bowl. I've kept the top super clean, but the bottom motor's going. I can't figure out how, either! I tried opening up the bottom, but it didn't look like there was anything in there I should be messing with. So I didn't.

First day of school, pt. II

Autumn really, really seems to like her new school. She hasn't had any complaints yet! Monday when I went to pick her up it was really chaotic, but yesterday they had a system worked out and it went a lot smoother. Thank goodness, too; Monday was a mess!

Brandon had a good day on Monday but yesterday was back to his normal behavior...I knew it couldn't last! Maybe today will be better.

school starts and everything else

Autumn really seemed to enjoy her first day of public school. She really really wants to ride the bus home, and while I'd imagine that would be easier, I'm just not ready for that yet. I remember the bus. I told her maybe after Christmas. Brandon behaved the whole day too...we'll see how long that lasts.

One of the animals peed somewhere in my house and I can't find it! It's driving me insane. I've looked everywhere, but I can still smell it. I guess it's time for (sigh) one of those major cleanings. I've doused everything I can find with vinegar and water, too; usually that works pretty well but the stinky smell is still there. Maybe I need to buy something for pet stink. And maybe a black light... you can use one to find old pee stains but mostly because they're fun. Yay!

I've already drank all my coffee this morning, which means I've no more to take to work. Eww. It's going to be a fun day...

First day of school...

Today is the first day for both the kiddos...Autumn starts public school and Brandon starts kindergarten. We'll see how it goes....

School starts soon

School for both Autumn and Brandon starts next week. I sure hope things calm down then! We have meet the teacher night at Autumn's school tonight. She's very excited about that. I just hope I get some information, because no one's told me anything! I don't know how early she can be dropped off, I don't know where she goes in the morning, I don't know where to pick her up, I don't know what kind of classes are offered... At our school, there's information laying around EVERYWHERE. And I guess it's just because it's a public school that no one told me these things, but I was expecting this kind of information when I registered her. So hopefully someone will have answers for me tonight! Brandon starts next week too, and I can tell you unless we have a miracle it's gonna be a mess. None of the teachers have signed a contract, there's no schedule worked out beyond class starting/ending times, no one knows who's doing morning extended care for the primary kids, and I can tell you right now that if they're in my room until 8:00 I will be EXTREMELY UNHAPPY! All we can do is hope for divine intervention....

Preseason starts in three weeks. Yay!!

Random thought day..

Due to an amazing coincidence, Revenge of the Sith comes out on November 1st, and my birthday is November 15th. Just thought I'd mention it.

I love iced tea. Lots.

The Family Guy is a funny show. The Simpsons'll rot your brains out.

Most Bizarre Thing Ever
I got an envelope in the mail today. No return adress, just my name. So I open it and it's a baby shower invitation...and it's BLANK. Not even a name. Passing strange.

We're going to the ball game Sunday. It starts at one. It's gonna be hot. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea...

Mexican food is the best food ever. I love it all. On the other hand, they gave us tequila, which is evil. Evil, I say! Sooo...I guess it's a fair trade-off.

I can't wait!

I can't wait till hockey starts! Only 43 more days!! I know most of you just don't get it, but you try going without your very favorite thing for a year and a half and see how you like it...

Fantasy hockey started this weekend. I already set up my team, but with so much time before the season starts I may run two teams this year. The wait is killing me, I may explode before then. It's horrible!

I can upgrade my satellite to get OLN for something like 5 dollars more a month--thank God!--and plus I'll get Cartoon Network back when I do that. I miss Pinky and the Brain!

I missed a really great party in Ft Worth Saturday because it was in Ft Worth. Nothing like a bunch of Star Wars geeks in one house. Maybe next time...

OLN

NHL hockey games will be broadcast on Outdoor Life Network for at least the next two seasons, ESPN having no longer wanted to carry the games.

I don't have OLN.

This is a serious, serious problem....

Getting closer...

Spent more time this morning transferring archives. I've gotten all the way to March 17th of last year...you may remember the lesson imparted in that one...Anyway, only a year and a half to go!!

Nothing much happening...this week has been insane at work with both new employees and new students. Too many; the mornings have been overcrowded. It'll settle down once school starts. I can't wait, either!

I tried to post this morning only to discover that I had to log in to the site--not something I normally do as I click "Remember Me" on EVERYTHING. So I logged in only to discover that the username that I use on EVERYTHING was the wrong one. Oops. So I jump through the hoops to recover my info and discover that I have three different Blogger accounts. You think I remember setting them up?

My car wouldn't start this morning and I had to take Mike's truck to work. He's got a nice truck, but I hate driving the beast. It's so BIG. I'll take my little car, thanks. Anyway, Mike called me at work and said that he had opened the hood and saw that the battery had exploded. Oh. That would explain it. So my brother had an extra one and he brought it over, which was nice of him. I think we'll buy a new one this weekend and give him his back...

Fantasy hockey is starting soon. I can't wait! I haven't gotten to play in over a year.... I'll kick ass this year, I'm sure!

Mornings are yuck

I have to get up early in the mornings. Early. My alarm goes off at 4:00. Now, I don't have to leave until 5:50, but mornings just take that long. And everyone thinks it's funny since I don't put on makeup or fuss with my hair or agonize over my clothes--it shouldn't take that long, right? Well, I'll tell you why...I don't function in the morning. And I don't mean I'm grouchy and slow (although I am!) I mean I don't work in the mornings. Every morning, it takes time to remember how to turn my alarm off. I go into the bathroom and stand there and try to figure out what to do to wash my face(and I don't know how many times I've tried to wash it with mouthwash). I stare at my contact case and wonder how the heck those things go into my eyes. Then I have to come out and figure out how the coffee pot works. And why is the cat meowing? And where are my clothes? And my shoes? On and on, all morning. Plus I have the kids to get ready, too...

Fun at work

I got to wear my costume to work. It was HOT. I was so sweaty by the time I got to leave! I ended up having to work late AGAIN today--in the past week, we've had one person decide not to come back for the fall, three people we've hired call back and say they can't take the position, and one person quit this morning. So I've been working extra and everyone's having a cow about the overtime. Oh well! Anyway, the costume thing was fun and a good time was had by all.

My kitty killed a lizard in my house. The spider killing is good, but I wish she'd leave the lizards alone; they eat bugs and besides, I like them! And yes, I know spiders eat bugs too, but that's beside the point.

The Leafs signed Concussion Boy* today. Whatever makes you happy, I guess...I remember several years back the Stars were talking about trading for him. Thank God they came to their senses in time. I don't want that headache (no pun intended!) here.

Dang. There was a story I wanted to relate but I can't remember it now...

Happy Birthday

Jon won't let any of us forget.....so, happy birthday!
:)

I didn't want to get up this morning. As it was, it was close to 4:30 before I got out of bed, and then I realised that my pants were still in the washer. Hope they dry before I have to leave!!

We have to go get Autumn registered for school today. I'm still not sure about this whole public school thing... I'm worried her class will be huge, or that she'll learn bad words or something. It should prove an interesting experience. And I still haven't taken Brandon to the eye doctor! He needs glasses and I wanted to get him some before school starts, but I still don't have the extra money for it. Kids are expensive!

Training camp starts soon; I can't wait! I'm so happy that there's hockey this year I'm practically vibrating for joy. Yay!

Good kitty!

My cat killed a big hairy spider last night. And here we all thought cats were useless!

I've so much to do at work this week, and I'm working short days on top of that. At least, I'm supposed to be. I guess that all depends on whether or not people call in! All the kiddos go to their new classses Monday, and it's just that last minute rush to get everything done on time. Plus the extras...we have potluck today (yummy!), Zooniversity's coming tomorrow and they always bring out that beautiful snake, and Thursay is dress-up day. Ha! And Friday will be the day I'm scrambling to get everything done because I wasted all my time on fun stuff this week...

Raising him right

We're getting ready for costume day at work, because I get to work at a fun place where we get to wear Jedi robes to work and you don't.

Ha!!!

Here's Brandon. Tell me I'm not bringing him up right!

Coach Gretzky

Looks like Wayne's gonna coach the Coyotes after all. Who wouldn't want to play for him?

Costume day at work is Thursday and I still haven't done Brandon's costume. I had intended to finish it this past weekend but I forgot to even start. Oops.

Keith's wedding was Saturday; it was nice. We were late getting there becuse of the rain, luckily the ceremony didn't start on time anyway. It was short, too; I hardly had to sit still at all! There were lots of people at the reception. Mike was happy because one of the guys with the Rangers was there but I can't for the life of me remember his name. He was an announcer or something like that. I like baseball and all, but if it's not hockey it just doesn't stick in my head!

A new King is made...

Jeremy Roenick was traded from the Flyers to the LA Kings. He claims he's "a Hollywood kind of guy." Surely a soft and cuddly* guy like JR won't get into any trouble hanging out in Los Angeles..

*read: arrogant and mouthy, but we love him just the same!

Mike Modano signed with the Stars after a roller-coaster two days of him saying he wanted to stay and his snakey agent saying there was no way he'd return to Dallas. He came back for much less money than he was offered elsewhere in order to play his whole career for the Stars organization. How often do you see that? There is a great article by Ralpg Strangis here.

Peter Forsberg has gone to the Flyers from Colorado...perhaps everyone's favorite blue-eyed Swede can lead them to victory. Not that I want that, my Stars will win, of course!

Wednesday, August 03, 2005

No, Mike, no!

Mike Modano has been testing the free agent waters!! I spent all day yesterday hovering around ESPN. waiting to see if he's signed somewhere. He's gotten offers from something like six teams, all around the three years, five million a year mark. I don't know that he'll get that much here...

But the headlines this morning say (thank God!) he'll probably stay. It seems last night they agreed in principal to a five-year, 17.75 million dollar deal. For those of you who don't want to get out the calculator like I did, that's 3.55 million a year. So...I guess we'll find out today....

I bounced a check yesterday. D'oh! I hate when I forget to write stuff in! I wonder; do you still call it bouncing a check when it's not a check? I use very few checks, but bouncing a debit card payment just dosent have the same ring!

Autumn was going to go to her best friends' grandma's farm this weekend, but Renée told me now that her mom changed her mind and now Autumn can't go. She was suprisingly calm when I told her, we'll see how she takes it when she talks to Jessica today!

Mike's stepbrother Keith is getting married Saturday; so we get to go to a wedding. Which means I get to dress up and behave for an evening...

Nieuwie

I heard on the way in yesterday that the Stars had contacted Joe Nieuwendyk. I was so excited I could've peed my pants. Wow. Imagine Joe coming back here. So what if he's six years older? The man never loses a face-off. Plus he's an all-around great player, and a natural leader. Yay!

He signed with the Panthers. Not yay!

oh well. It was a nice thought while it lasted...

I woke Autumn up this morning, and she looked at me and said

"You have a spaghetti house!"

I can only assume she was having some kind of bizarre dream...

Sixty-five more days till the season opener!!!

Zubie's back

The Stars got Sergei Zubov under a three year contract yesterday, one day before he would have become a free agent. Unbelievably, Modano still remains unsigned, and free agency starts today. Now we'll just hope for the best...I really thought he'd be signed by now!

The Stars picked a kid in the first round that last played for a high school. That struck me as bizarre...most kids come from college or a league. I wonder how many have come out of a high school...really, I've never even heard of it happening before!

I just found out yesterday that Ralph Fiennes will be in the upcoming Harry Potter movie. Cool. He's a great actor...plus, he's sexy. Yay for good-looking Brits!
