Life, Random Thoughts and a Fair Amount of Hockey

I had to leave work early on Friday because Brandon was sick...at least he waited until Mike got a job! He seems like he's all right now, though. I guess it was just some sort of flu bug. I did get a lot done this weekend, though, and I still have two days left, too! I finally got around to fixing the shower and the shower caddy, caulked my tea jar, bought a sword (I love swords, they're so cool!), went and spent some time with my friends and made cookies... although I still have more cookies to make...

We've discovered that it's cheaper to keep our old dental plan from Tyler than it would be to enroll in the new plan offered at Mike's new job, which is just as well because my dentist doesn't accept Aetna. Yay! Also a big public thank-you to Ed Parker for the book...he sent us a nice copy of The Three Musketeers for no other reason than that he's a nice guy...Thank you!

I was thinking...it's kind of strange that we have waiters and waitress, and stewards and stewardess (I know it's not PC, but you know you say "stewardess" too), and actors and actresses, but not authors and authresses...just a thought...

Yay! It's Friday! I'm sooo glad, too. I'm gonna go to the store today so I don't have to go this weekend. I hate going to Wal*Mart on Saturday and wasting a perfectly good two hours of my weekend. This morning's not going well, I slept in about 15 minutes, then the kids wouldn't get up, and it was after 5:30 before everyone was dressed. Then Autumn threw a big ol' fit because I told her she wouldn't have time to eat here and she'd have to eat at school....ugh, I can't wait till about 4:00, when I'll be home and my weekend can really start... We're going to my mom's house Monday for ribs, and I don't have anything planned before then. Maybe I can actually get the house clean...

Exploding Tea

I got the satellite back working, hooray! I finally got my DVD's in the mail yesterday too. I didn't end up watching any of them yesterday, though, I was too tired. I can't wait for the weekend. I like sleeping in. I did remember to pack the kid's lunches last night, so I don't have to do it this morning. I hate packing their lunches in the morning, but I never can seem to remember to do it the night before!
I think we'll have ribs for dinner. They've been sitting in the fridge for three days now, so I'm gonna go ahead and assume that they're thawed....and mashed potatoes, and peas...yum!
I had a catastrophe with my tea yesterday...I've got one of those tea jars with the spout on the bottom, you know, so you don't have to pick it up and pour it? Anyway, I forget the brand, but I got it at Wal*mart. The stupid spout leaks. That's not even the bad part, the bad part is that I've gone through three of these jars, and every single one leaked. Well, anyway, yesterday, this one just exploded tea all over my kitchen. It was a mess....I caulked up the spout of the last one I had with silicone, maybe I'll do it to this one too...

No satellite?

Our satellite went out yesterday afternoon around 5:00, and it's still out today....yuck. And the kids are driving me crazy, too, since they think I'm just being mean and not letting them watch tv--guess we'll have to call the customer service guys today...

Uniforms are Great!

Tonight's Mike's first night working overnights...he should be good and tired too, since he woke up at 11:30 and said he couldn't sleep any more. I made him go lay down after dinner, but he's not sleeping. Tomorrow I'll say "I told you so."

Uniforms for the kids start back up tomorrow. I'm glad too, it makes the mornings less traumatic when Autumn gets to wear a uniform than when she's having breakdows about not finding her favorite shirt (or shorts, or shoes, or socks...). Everything just goes so much smoother, and I don't have to worry about their clothes matching!

Windows are Great

Yay! It's Friday! I'm so very glad too. We finally got to replace that window last night, thank all that is good and holy...I can only guess at how much A/C was flying out that window, plus the dog coming in...

I absolutly have to clean my house today. I've put it off all week, and now I feel like we're living in squalor....I do have all the laundry done, at least! I want to go to the grocery store today, too, that way I won't have to go tomorrow...we'll see if I still feel like it after work! Well, I guess that's all for now, I gotta go now...

Christmas shopping and stupid dogs

Wow this has been a long week. Two more days till it's over, though...

Got a start on my Christmas shopping this week...everyone thinks I'm crazy, but I tell you what, in December when everyone's broke and shopping, I'm at home with money and no crowds...beat that! I like being done by October...

I've been so tired this week! We're supposed to get the window replaced today. Missy had cut herself badly enough on it last week to have to go to the vet for a lacerated artery in her leg...you'd think that would teach her a lesson, but, no, she came in again yesterday.... But the window guy finally called and said the glass was in... Well, I must go now and get ready for work....

yukky third shift

I found out yesterday that Mike's new job is going to be on third shift instead of second shift, which is both good and bad. See, it's bad, cuz it's third shift, and I always hated when he worked that shift. And not only that, but it doesn't even start till midnight. Yuck. But the good thing is that at least I'll see him...on second shift he would leave before I got home and he'd be asleep when I left...that would have been hard on the kiddos. Hopefully it'll only be for a little while, he said job openings are based on merit and not on seniority, so if a machinist position opens on a different shift he can get it...

Kindergaren is wearing Autumn out. They don't get naps, and so she's so tired by the time we leave, but she refuses to lay down and rest when we get home in the afternoon. She's been soooo grouchy! I can't wait till she gets used to it...

I got Thursday off, and I used it wisely....I went to the store thinking that I could stay home all weekend. Unfortunatly, I forgot that I had inservice (yuck) on Saturday. Oh well, at least that was something I got paid for... I did stay home all day today, though.

Tomorrow's Autumn's first day of kindergarten...school doesn't officially start till the 27th, but due to the different programs at school, she moves up early and goes to summer camp for a week and a half. She's excited. Mike has started his new job...he's on first shift for training, then he moves to second shift on Wednesday. Second shift is actually a good thing if he stays on it, because that way when Autumn goes to public school, I won't have to change my hours. But that's still awhile away...Um, not much else, sorry I've been so lazy about this lately!!

Pants that FIT??

I promise I haven't been ignoring y'all or anything, I've just been lazy! I get to take tomorrow off of work! Yay! I wanted to take today, but I couldn't. I'll probably get to leave early Friday, too, since I've worked late a few days this week. Can't have me getting overtime, now, or they'd have to pay me for it...I also have to leave early today so I can get gas. I think. I finally got a pair of pants for work that fit me! We have to wear twill khaki pants, and all of mine are too big...but I got a pair yesterday that fit...the problem is that they're a little girl's 14, and everyone's gonna laugh at me....oh well! But they were only ten bucks, so HA! I guess the bonus of having no hips is that you get to get pants for cheap...

I hope we hear today when Mike starts his job, since they said Thursday or Monday....there shouldn't be any problems, but I'll still feel a lot better when I hear for sure, you know? And I'm tired of living on my pay!!Well, I guess that's it for now...gotta finish getting my stuff around and find some shoes...

Rain!!

Guess what? It rained today! Yay! For a long time too. It barely got up to nintey degrees. It was great! Unfortunatly it also knocked out our satellite; we still get the guide list but none of the shows are coming on. I saw the guy across the street up on his roof playing with his dish, too, so I guess it's everyone. Maybe I should call or something...

It looks like Mike has got a job, he should start at the end of the week or Monday next. The parent company still has to review his "packet"-whatever that is- but barring anything completely bizarre, there shouldn't be any problems. The funny thing is is that after all this time, he ended up having two companies wanting him to come in for hiring purposes at the same time, and as he couldn't reschedule either he had to pick...

Well, that's about it...nothing else spactacular or exciting, guess I'll go see if the satellite's back yet...

It's HOT!

Every year about this time, I try to remember why it is that I like living in Texas. I like living here, I really do, but I can't seem to remember the reason...I think the heat affects my brain. I wonder if it's possible to sweat so much that you could actually just rinse away, like Senator Kelley did in the X-Men. I was watching the baseball game-they're in New York-and they said it was like 76 degrees there. And raining. Now that's just not fair. No one should get both cool weather and rain at the same time in August. I think I can remember what cool weather is like, but I don't remember rain. I've seen pictures of it...I sure don't remember the last time it rained at my house, though...

Brandon's running fever again, poor guy. It's been awhile since he's been sick. He'll have to stay home with Mike tomorrow, but I'll have to leave work while he has his interview...hopefully it won't take too long....otherwise I'll miss out on about five hours of work. Oh well...hopefully Mike gets a job soon so I don't have to worry!!

No screams? OK!

Yay! I finally found the schedule for The West Wing re-broadcasts. Which is to say, I finally looked for it, it wasn't actually hard to find. Turns out it doesn't start till next week, and it looks like it's at 6:00. The choices are at 6 and 10, so I hope we get the six o'clock one...

Mike had two more calls from places wanting to interview him today, I hope he gets a job soon...

I keep hearing crashes and bangs coming from the direction of the kids' bedrooms, but no screams, so I'm just going to content myself with sitting here. If they're making a mess, they'll clean it...they're driving me insane, you know. They don't like to listen...

Autumn's pep rally was today. I think she had a good time. She was happy because Daddy was able to come...

IRS oopsie

I didn’t end up getting to stay home all weekend, I have to go to the grocery store and to Target today. I had forgotten about the tax-free weekend, and we need some clothes...

I’ve spent the better part of my weekend bleaching my carpet. It looks much better now, but the bleach fumes are killing me. I may just be insane by Monday.

I recently got Mike to read The Three Musketeers. I really like that book. I’d like to own a copy of it, but I don’t. I always check it out of the library. I got it a couple of weekends go to read again, but Mike ended up reading it, too. He liked it. I also picked up Twenty Years After, which is like a sequel to The Three Musketeers; I’ve not read it before. It’s pretty good, so far. Alexandre Dumas is so witty! Plus each time I read it I gain a larger vocabulary of French expletives, pardieu! although it’s my opinion that the Russians are better at swearing...We got our refund check from the IRS yesterday, but it was only for $400 and it should have been for $800. Mike's supposed to call tomorrow and find out where our other half is...

Veg out

Yay! It's finally Friday! I didn't think that it would ever get here. I am going to clean my house when I get home. I have confidence in my ablity to do so. I made a god start yesterday, so hopefully I can talk myself into finishing up after work...

I have high hopes to do nothing this weekend. I'd like to just sit on my butt for two days. I don't want to go anywhere, I don't want to do anything, I just want to turn into a vegetable till Sunday night. It'll be nice. See, that's why I have to finish cleaning today...
