I like shootouts

Their last three games, the Stars have come from behind, tied it in the last minutes, made it through overtime, and then won in the shootout. I don't like the whole having to come from behind thing, but if it works...and teams do still get two points for a shooout win.

Saturday's game was crazy, the opening minute being littered with nonsense penalties and then several really stupid ones called throughout the game. Then, they finally get to the shootout and the Stars win with their first two skaters as is their norm, right? Credits are rolling, TV cuts away (incidentally, I'm listening to the radio with the TV on mute as this is a national game) BUT the games not over yet...the (insert your choice of word or words here) referees have called Turco for throwing his stick--he lost his grip, he didn't throw it, it didn't even come CLOSE to the skater. In fact, it was going completely the other way...but no harm, Turco still won the game for us on the next skater. Good thing, too; it was his penalty that the Wings scored on to take the lead in the game to begin with.

Also, Jussi Jokinen is now 8 for 8 in the shootout, as are the Stars as a team...

So long, Mario

Mario Lemieux has retired. Again. But at age 40, you would think that this time, it's for good, and he can concentrate on just being the owner. Let Crosby take over being the star.

My neurotic cat got into my yarn last night and unrolled it all up and down the hallway, around the desk and into the bathroom and the chair. He had a good time about it , too, the beastie.

Brandon has informed me that his real name is Dustin Jerry Donny, but it's ok if I still call him Brandon.

I'm exhausted. I can't wait till this weekend...

Yay!

The Stars finally won a game last night, snapping their first three-game losing streak this season. And Turco was in net , too; God knows he needed the confidence. All in all, a good game. Also, they unveiled the logo for the 2007 All-Star game, which will be in Dallas. 'Course, we've known that for two years--the worst-kept secret in hockey, as they say-- but get this..Brett Hull was there. In a Stars sweater! Cuz you know why? They ALSO announced yesterday that he'll be rejoining the team in some as-yet-undetermined capacity in the front office and working with the players. We knew he'd come, of course, but it's a relief to rear, just the same. Yay!

There's more, but I'm out of time. I need to get back in the habit of writing in the morning!

This and that

Had a gift card to Best Buy, and we bought the Sims 2 this past weekend. Needless to say, I've wasted a lot of this week playing on the computer...

I haven't been sleeping well this week. I've been going to bed same time as always (well, except for last night when I was up till eleven reading a book) and now I'm just SO TIRED! I'm really glad it's friday. I'm gonna come home today and sleep. I can't wait!

The Stars have lost their last two games, their last to Atlanta, to whom the Stars had never lost. Ever. Hopefully they'll do better tonight. Turco's been injured, but I haven't checked yet to see if he's playing tonight.

Um, I'm sure there's more to say, but I'm having trouble stringing thoughts this morning

Finns rule

What do a mutated fish and the Dallas Stars have in common?

Too many Finns.

That's right, Dallas has added their sixth Finn in Janne Niinimaa. And let me tell you, we love each and every one!

Tonight, the Finnish Stars played Alexander Ovechkin in a cross-conference game. The rest of the Capitals came along for the ride--when one player has nearly a quarter of your team's goals(and point-wise, he has a hand in about half of Washington's 116), you know who's pulling you along! Which begs the question...Ovechkin or Crosby? They both have similar numbers--Crosby has 21 goals and 27 assists, Ovechkin has 27 goals and 25 assists. They're both stars on sad, sad teams--Pittsburgh has 11 wins and Washington has 13. Ovechkin may have a slight edge in numbers, but he's also two years older; 20 to Crosby's 18. That's scary...these guys are gonna be dead amazing in three or four years. But really, this is a debate for hot-headed fans.

By the way, the score was Stars 4, Ovechkin 1. Only one point out of the conference lead!!

you have got to be kidding me

So, ok, it's finally Thursday and Mike's deposit is made (I love direct deposit) and we'll be all caught up, right? They shorted his check! By a lot! it was only $150 and I KNOW he worked more than twelve hours last week. This sucks. Cuz now, I have to drive all the way back to work on Friday afternoon--assuming that the two payments I have out don't clear before then--and pick up my check. I'm very unhappy about this! Also, my satellite isn't working and Mike has it set up in such a convoluted way that I can't even figure out WHY it isn't working. I do not like the way he set it up. AND, my aquarium has sprung a leak--way at the bottom so I have to drain the whole thing--AND one of my pairs of work pants has developed a hole and I can't exactly run out and buy new ones with no money in my account. And now, all my mid-month payments will be late because Mike's check was short! On the plus side, at least it's a three day weekend...

Darn!

I thought we lived close enough to town, but it seems we're still too rural...can't get DSL out here yet! Darn it!

Um, guess that's it...

not getting paid sucks

Our checks weren't available until 4:00 on Friday afternoon. I get off at 2:15 and Mike goes to work at 3:30. So...I didn't get my check until Monday. No big deal, except that I didn't know about this in advance, so I already had stuff scheduled to come out of the bank. I bounced THREE payments! And there's still one more that's possibly going to come out before Mike gets paid Thursday, and since I already paid NINTEY DOLLARS in fees, I don't have money left to cover it. And that one's a check, too. Don't send out many of those anymore. This sucks. And now, they're saying checks are going to be that late all the time, which means in effect, I don't get paid till Monday. At least I know in ADVANCE this time, so I can plan accordingly. Know what really sucks? One of the payments that bounced was the debit that I filled out for Autumn's pictures on the 29th of September. Three and a half months later, it finally decides to clear, and they HAD to pick Friday. Sheesh.

The Stars came from behind again last night to win 2-1 against Minnesota, and unsuprisingly, Hedberg got the start. I'd say they need to have better first periods, but as long as we keep getting the same result, who cares?? AND, LA lost last night! To Anaheim! Ha! Not only lost, but lost 6-2. Ha HA!! Which meast Dallas is in sole possession of second place in the Western conference, one point behind Detroit for the conference lead, and only two points behind Ottawa for the league lead. I'm so happy I could pee my pants!!

uh...

Some days you just can't think of a title...

The Stars have come from behind 3-0 in their last two games. That's good news for the obvious reasons, but bad news for the fact that Turco has been yanked after the third goal in both games. Sucks for him. But even better, the Stars have pulled even with LA with three games in hand, and are now in possesion of second place in the conference. Yay!

Mike will get his computer back this week, and it looks to be a possibility that at that point we will be able to get DSL. Verizon has a deal that interests me; finally something inexpensive enought for cheapskates like me! Now, this is a little bit of low-end DSL, but still better than dial-up. Unfortunatly, if we get this, it will have to be on Mike's computer, which means that we'll have to set it up for email and all. But that's not the unfortunate part. The unfortunate part is that we use my computer for email now, and not being able to afford Internet service for two computers, I'm now fresh out of reasons to keep my beloved Mac on the desk. I'm very sad about that. Mike wasn't very sympathetic, either...

Stuff I missed yesterday

The Stars haven't been doing just stellar lately and it's getting old! They squandered two games against LA, which are their most important games right now. LA is injured (LA? Injured?? Shocking!) and undermanned and they still can't win! They've developed one of those mental blocks against that particular team. Nyargh!

It takes Brandon three utensils to make a PB&J sandwich-a spoon, a knife and a spreader (like a cheese spreader). Because it seems that while you can spread peanut butter with a knife, you just can't do that with jelly...

My livingroom looks like it exploded right now, trying to make room for the new TV. Electronics and books all over the place. I can't wait to clean it up!

Back to the grind...

Geez. Nothing like having five days off of work to make you realise how early 430 is...

Christmas was nice and relaxing. We ended up leaving Mike's mom's early because I had a headache, but it was nice and all. She gave me a gift card to Ikea, so we got to go there the other day. Wow. It was cool. Got all kinds of fun stuff!

Mike's computer's broken, and regardless of what he says, it wasn't my fault. It's at Chris' house now. Doesn't bother me much, but Mike's pretty sad. Darn it...I just remembered...there's pictures on there that I never uploaded from Autumn's party. Hope those don't get wiped out again...

I guess Mike brought home a new TV from Chris' house too. I haven't been to the livingroom to check yet but given that he drove out there with Jeremy last night I assume it's at our house now. Bigger than out old one so now it'ss be easier to see the puck!

Mike was having fits New Year's because he didn't get any black-eyed peas. Black-eyed peas taste like dirt and also I was raised by Yankees, so, no, I don't make the nasty things. Ew. And he had to work so he couldn't get any from his mom eother. I was full of sympathy, I tell you what.

My mom got back from Michigan which it nice becuse I was tired of driving across town to feed her animals. Yay.

Well, that's it for now; hopefully posting will be more regular now that holidays are over... Also I didn't proof this so sorry for any typos!
