one step closer

My Oilers won again last night...look for Edmonton/Sabers in the Finals!

Brandon's Kindergarten graduation is tonight. He's very excited...I'm just hoping that it doesn't last as long as Autumn's did. We didn't get home till almost nine that night. He gets a picnic in the park today and he's very excited, so he actually got dressed today without much prodding. Three more days and I won't have to get him up in the mornings anymore! Yay!

I was doing some yard work yesterday that ended up taking a lot longer than I thought...I was out for three or four hours and I ended up getting sunburned. Brandon informed me that I should have been wearing sunscreen. Thanks. but the yard looks way nicer now!

Can't believe it...

Edmonton won again!! They didn't have to face Dallas this year, and as a result, they get to go to the conference finals. They beat San Jose last night 2-0 to clinch the series, so yay Oilers. Plus we're big Shark haters round here, and it's always nice to see them lose. And, the game started at 7:00 last night, so I didn't even have to stay up all night to see it!

School's almost over for Brandon, his last week is only a week away. Autumn's still got until the eighth, but that doesn't really affect me since I'm already gone before she even gets up in the mornings. But once Brandon's done, I won't have to get him up in the mornings anymore. I can't wait!!

Second round, continued

I've been way too tired to keep up with this. With only a month of hockey left, I've been staying up late to stock up! Anyway, three games into the second round, three out of four teams are in danger of being swept. Colorado, Jersey and Ottawa are all down 3-0, and it serves Colorado right, the damn upstarts. The San Jose/Edmonton series is showing some life, so maybe the Oil can come back ...

On to the semis...

Ok, I've been a little bitter in the past week or so and so have not been keeping you up to date on the playoffs. So, a quick breakdown of what we have now...

In the West, we have Edmonton and San Jose and Anaheim and Colorado. I'd like to see Edmonton come out of this series; they're outmatched, but not so much as they were against Detroit and look what happened there. Plus, I hate San Jose. Dallas has beat up on Edmonton so many times in the playoffs, year after year, that you just start to feel sorry for them after awhile! Colorado on the other hand are getting their butts handed to them with losses of 5-0 and 3-0 against a rookie goaltender, not to mention the fact that it's embarrassing to lose to any of the California teams. Oh, wait, that's a personal feeling and not an unbiased sporting opinion, California actually has some pretty good teams this year.

In the East, there's Ottawa/Buffalo and Carolina/NJ. I rather like Buffalo and Jersey, but both of the opening games were insane affairs with Buffalo winning 7-6 and Carolina winning 6-0, so we'll see.

Oddly, in the East, the 1,2,3 and 4 seeds came out of the first round. In the West, it was the 5,6,7 and 8.

Western Conference Quarterfinals, game 6

Edmonton 4, Detroit 3

Edmonton wins, 4-2

Ha! What a great game. Back and forth, and when it looked like Detroit would roll all over the Oilers, Edmonton came roaring back with some great play. They scored with just about a minute left to win the series. Here's an instance where it's OK for me to be wrong...I thought for sure Detroit would win, but if Dallas can't advance, neither should Detroit.

So it's vindictive. So one ever accused me of being a saint.
Calgary 3, Anaheim 2

Series tied 3-3

Anaheim just won't give up, scoring a power play goal with just five minutes left in the game, and now we finally get a game seven.

Anaheim's Ilya Bryzgalov got the start in goal over Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Apparently it worked; I thought for sure Calgary would tie this up last night. So, one more chance, and we all get treated to a game seven.

boo

Just don't talk to me today.

Two years in a row now, stupid Colorado beat the Stars soundly. Last time around, they deserved it. This time, Colorado's goalie was weak and shaky, their best skaters were nowhere near the Stars best, and their record was poor (relatively). But the bastards still won.

Brett Hull was on the postgame on the radio and he had the best quote to sum it all up.

"What a kick in the nuts."
