Life, Random Thoughts and a Fair Amount of Hockey

It's random thought day!

No News Is...
The owners and players have still not reached an agreement. But with nothing else to report on, hockey writers across the nation have been reporting on the continuing meetings where NOTHING happens. I'm glad the sides are meeting, but I'm tired of reading that they've met for the nth time with no progress. Just let me know when they reach an agreement!

Note To Self
I'm of the mentality that has to write stuff down to remember. So when someone tells me something, it goes on a scrap of paper or a napkin or bit of skin--then it gets lost. (Unless it's on skin, then it gets washed.) And the upshot of all this is that I find scraps of paper like this one in front of me that says "10x60x3, herglic". Ok, I'm sorry, what?? In my handwriting, too.

Razor, Where Are You?
At the beginning of the lockout, Daryl Reaugh promised us a new column about every two weeks. His last three were on Mar 23, Nov 23, and Nov 1. Go figure.

I Love John
John Williams is a genius. I love music that makes you feel.

Finally got to go see Revenge of the Sith. It was great! We went to Plano Saturday night and the digital picture was AWESOME. Then we saw it again Sunday morning. It was such a good movie... I'm a little sad that it's over though. Hopefully the TV series will be good, but no one has any real information on that, like when it's set or when it starts or anything. Um...I really don't feel like thinking right now. So there.

I don't get when people say that a woman honors her husband by taking his name upon marriage. Seems to me, by that idea, the man completely disrespects the wife. After all, he doesn't take her name. Taking the man's name dates back to a time when marriage was usually arranged and almost always either a form of subjugation for the woman; or, in the case of women privileged enought to be born to court, an ambitious political move. Honor rarely had anything to do with it. I should point out that I took my husband's name-- by the present day, it's tradition to do so. Tradition, not honor. I honored him by marrying him, not by taking his name. And as an added bonus, it simplifies the logistics of marriage. It's a lot easier to fill out forms without having to write two complete names, there's no question about the kids last names, and everyone knows we're a family. But a lot of the women I work with get so worked up over this topic. They seem to think it's some kind of unspeakable evil for a woman not to do; that the woman is some kind of psychotic she-devil, radically independant and all that. It's a name for goodness sake. A name! My name has nothing to do with who I am. I could keep my maiden name, or I could change my name to Bozo the Clown. I'm still me. Taking a new name doesn't change who you are. It shouldn't. Who you are is a result of the sum of your life experience, the choices you've, things you've learned. It has nothing to do with what people call you. Or what you choose to call yourself.

Well, the midnight showing that I COULDN"T GO TO was last night. I'm very sad. Renée got to go, so she's dragging into work around ten today. Very much not fair. Boo hoo. I can't go till Saturday.

Alan brought us both a Star Wars cup, and paper Star Wars plates and napkins and super cool paper Vader masks and some food so we could have Star Wars lunch. I think we'll do it again today, too. Yay! Anyway, I really don't feel like thinking right now, so I'm gonna go.

I have this theory about guest bathrooms....

It may just be my house, but have you ever noticed that people only come over and need to use your bathroom when it's at its worst? I keep the kids' bathroom clean, you understand; but with a five-year-old boy, a seven-year-old girl and a cat sharing the bathroom, it's a chore. And no one ever comes over when it's clean. People come over when the cat peed on the floor, or there's kitty litter spilled all over the place, or there's no toilet paper, or Autumn smeared lipstick all over the place, or Brandon's soaked all the hand towels, or the toothpaste is squeezed out on the floor, or there's mounds of dirty clothes. I don't get it. Why can't people see it when it's clean??

Renée gets to go see Star Wars tonight. I'm insanely jealous. It's not fair! I can't go until Saturday. I already got my tickets...I convinced Mike to go to Plano so we could see it in DLP. I'm very excited. Yay! Anyway, with the Cinemark there, you can print your own tickets, so you don't even have to stand in line at the box office. That's nice. Three more days!!

Two more weeks of school...

Autumn's program is tonight, and she's really worried because the grass skirt I ordered for her isn't here yet. I'm hoping that it'll get here by this afternoon, otherwise she'll be mad about it for days. It's not a big deal in that they weren't required to have one, she just wanted the skirt because they're supposed to dress "summery". So. We'll see.

I'm having a hard time typing this morning because Brandon's trying his hardest to go back to sleep on me right now. I wish I could go back to sleep. Not fair.

Five more days till I get to see Star Wars! It's really killing me to have to wait till Saturday. It'll be out for TWO DAYS by then! Oh, but I did convince Mike to go to Plano to see it in digital-as long as I get advance tickets. I can't wait can't wait can't wait!!

I'm awfully glad it's Friday. I was up till 11:45 last night making a gigantic cake for the lady at work... I got it all done and had previously measured to make sure it would fit in my trunk, but what I didn't count on was the weight. I had to have Mike help me get it into the car, and I have no idea how I'm going to get it back out. But it's done...

Renée got me the cool Episode III soundtrack with the bonus DVD; I haven't gotten to watch it yet since I was up with the cake all night, but I plan on watching it tonight. She said it was cool.

I have to cut this short...I'm so tired I'm having a hard time forming coherent thoughts, much less typing. More later.

I've had my new tags sitting in my car for about a week now, so I decided to put them on yesterday. I pulled off my inspection sticker instead. Oops. It wouldn't really be a big deal since it was up next month anyway, except that Mike did the same thing last time his tags were up and I made fun of him for it. Oh well. Guess we know what I'll be doing this weekend. Wouldn't be so bad if they wouldn't keep raising the prices on inspections...

Animal Planet has a show coming up next Wednesday called Star Wars Creatures. Should be interesting...I guess it's consolation for the poor people like me who won't be getting to go to the midnight showing that night...

Not much new lately, sorry. The kids went to the river this weekend, so we got to go out AGAIN! Two weeks in a row...I don't thing we've done that since the kids were born. Anyway, we went to go see Kingdom of Heaven, which was pretty good, and then we went to Don Pablo's where we got horrible service. Now, I'm usually pretty tolerant of that sort of thing...I did my stint as a waitress and I know what it's like. It gets busy and it's hard to give the tables a lot of attention. But here's the thing...there was NO ONE THERE. Literally. There were three other tables in the whole place. Everyone was at the bar watching the Mavs gave. We got seated right away and then had to wait for over ten minutes for anyone to come over and take our drink order. And then it was another ten minutes after that till someone else came and took out meal order. And then forever before someone else came and brought our food, and then someone completely different came and refilled our drinks. It was awful. Anyway.

Um, I guess that's it. Bye now.

Yay! I have my lightsaber all done, so now I can join Rebel Legion. Cuz I'm that much of a dork. Yay! I don't want to send in my stuff till I get over this cold though; I don't want to look all stoned in my picture. I did post a pic of my saber, but it really didn't come out too well. But if you're just dying to know what it looks like, feel free to peek. It helps if you turn the brightness on your moniter way up.

I've been sneezy and snotty all week. I can't wait till I feel better! I haven't eaten in two days...it was depressing yesterday because we had Cha Cha's catered to school and I couldn't eat it. I ended up making a plate and just picking at it. It smelled really good, too.

Autumn's having her mother's day tea party in her classroom tomorrow. I'm not really looking foward to it..being trapped in a room for an hour with twelve other women? And hot tea. Sounds like fun. Please oh please don't make me make chatty meaningless conversation with them. I really don't get along so well with women... I just don't understand their motives. Men are so much easier to understand. Men are straightfoward and logical. Women are...not. Why would you make someone guess what you want or mean instead of telling them? Or, worse yet, why would you want to be mad at someone without telling them why? What fun is it to get your feelings hurt over every stupid little thing? Ooo, and I HATE it when you make a decision and women feel the need to give "advice". I'm sorry, did I ask for advice? That's why I like to talk to men... they can listen without feeling the need to give unsolicited advice. Or question your motives or your decision-making skills... Wow, I sound really bitter, huh? I'm not, really...I'm just complaining. Working in a building full of women will do that to you. They're catty.

How Lightsabers Work

Another great page brought to us by HowStuffWorks.com. I thought it was quite funny. Chris, you should find it pretty entertaining, too...

My parents took the kids to the cabin all weekend, which was nice. The mornings were quiet, the house was clean, and we got to go out on a date. Also, I didn't have to work yesterday because of the Cinco de Mayo holiday (on the second, go figure), so it was a nice, long weekend. I got to relax, the kids had tons of fun...

This morning has been hell!

No one wanted to get up, Brandon's socks weren't dry, it's 5:30 and Autumn's still not dressed. She couldn't find any pants (apparently my fault) and can only find red or green socks (again; my fault) and she wants it to be warm enough to wear a skirt. Unfortunatly, it's only supposed to be in the sixties today. Yup; my fault. I didn't want to wear sandals because it was chilly, so I had to go on a search for my shoes that I haven't worn in two weeks, and I had to put socks on. I don't like socks! I'm tired, my nose is snotty, and I just want to go back to bed. It's not fair! Four more weeks till summer. I still have to work, but the pace slows down in the summer. I can't wait. And I still have to pack Brandon's lunch this morning...
